Brought to us in early May 2021 when she was found wandering a rural highway, Lovey had suffered blunt trauma to the right side of her jaw sometime during her first year of life which was never treated.  Consequently the bone deteriorated, her jaw healed on its own almost completely shut, and she was without teeth on the upper right side.  An opening in the soft palate of her mouth allowed food to leak from her nose.  After extensive veterinary evaluation, she had repair and reconstructive surgery on May 11 at the Missouri University research veterinary clinic.  We sent her story out on social media, and wonderful people from all around the country donated funds to get her the specialized and expensive care she needed!  From the beginning, she demonstrated a sweet and affectionate personality – everyone involved with her care falls in love with her.  She is about 1.5 years old and 30 lbs of energy!

Now, thanks to everyone who donated for her care and surgery, Lovey is healing, happy, and healthy!  She is learning to eat regular food slowly and carefully now that her jaw can open to at least 1.5 inches – the vets say this may even increase in time.  The opening in her upper palate has been closed and is healed, so nothing from her mouth leaks out her nose, and even with no upper bone or teeth on the right, she can chew and hold balls and toys to play.  Her personality is still sweet, affectionate and playful!  Lovey remains in a loving foster home – learning basic manners and scheduled for her spay –  and then will be ready for adoption to her forever home.  If you are interested in caring for this wonderful and truly loving rescue pup, please complete an online application at stoveranimalrescue.com – her adoption fee has also been sponsored, and you may be the perfect match for her!
